WEB Alan Hansen: Graeme Souness sends prayers to seriously ill friend on Euro 2024 coverage

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen is seriously ill in hospital, the club has announced.

The 68-year-old, who captained Liverpool during the club's dominance of English football in the 1970s and 1980s, is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

In a statement, Liverpool said: "The club is aware of the serious illness affecting our former player and captain, Alan Hansen, and we would like to express our support and best wishes to him and his family at this time." Hansen made over 600 appearances for Liverpool, winning eight league titles, three European Cups, and two FA Cups. He also won 26 caps for Scotland. After retiring from playing, Hansen became a successful television pundit, working for the BBC and ITV. He is known for his outspoken views and his ability to analyse matches in a clear and concise manner.

Souness, who played alongside Hansen for Liverpool, sent his best wishes to his former team-mate on Sky Sports' coverage of Euro 2024. He said: "I'm very sad to hear about Alan. He's a great guy and a great friend. I'm sending him all my prayers and best wishes.

The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club are with Alan and his family at this difficult time.
