A Long Road Back Says Twins Star

Royce Lewis Returns to Twins Lineup After Injury

'A Long Road Back,' Says Twins Star

After 58 Missed Games, Lewis Excited to Be on the Field Again

MINNEAPOLIS - One of the Minnesota Twins' young stars is set to return to the lineup Tuesday after missing the first two months of the season with a quad strain. Royce Lewis, who started at third base on Opening Day, recorded two hits including a solo home run before having to exit the game.

"It's been a long road back," said Lewis. "But I'm excited to be back on the field and helping my team win."

Lewis, 23, was one of the Twins' most promising prospects before the injury. He was named the organization's Minor League Player of the Year in 2019 and made his MLB debut in 2020.

But Lewis's 2022 season was limited to just 12 games after he collided with the wall while tracking a ball in center field. The injury required surgery and kept him out of action for nearly six months.

"It was a tough time," said Lewis. "I was just starting to get my feet wet in the big leagues and then I had to sit out most of the season. But I used that time to get stronger and work on my game."

Lewis says he's now fully recovered from the injury and ready to contribute to the Twins. He's expected to start at shortstop on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds.

"I'm just grateful to be back on the field," said Lewis. "I'm going to make the most of this opportunity and help my team win."
