39-Year-Old Terry Clark Hughes Jr. Suspect in Killing of Four Officers
Fugitive Task Force Was Attempting to Serve Multiple Warrants at Scene
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The suspect in the shooting deaths of four law enforcement officers in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been identified as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr., authorities said Tuesday.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was attempting to serve multiple warrants at Hughes' apartment when he opened fire, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney.
Putney said Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene. He did not provide details on how Hughes died.
The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in east Charlotte. The officers who were killed were identified as Sheriff's Deputy Micah Kelly, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Sean Clark, Officer Christopher Kelly, and Officer Clayton Graham.
